We are all sowers of hope
“We are all sowers of hope” was the theme chosen for the event we organized for young people on May 25th 2018. We were inspired by the fact that St. Mary Euphrasia was called “Madame de l’Esperance” (Lady of Hope) and we wanted this message of hope for our young people today to be an extension of the celebrations for the 150th anniversary of her death this year.
In order to organize this event we contacted the Parish Priest, Fr. Jean-Paul Avrillon to know how to reach the young people. He suggested speak directly to the chaplains who work in colleges and high schools, among others the college St. Charles and the high schools Joseph Wresinski, Les Buissonnets, Sacré Cœur, Moulin and Renoir.
We were gratified by the warm welcome of several chaplaincies which showed a great interest in our project. Together we worked on different ideas and proposals before deciding for an evening on May 25th from 5.30 pm to 10 pm.
We chose the parable of the sower with a PowerPoint presentation prepared by a Sister from the Congregational Spirituality Centre. We established the link with Rose Virginie, a young girl who welcomed the good seed, let it bear fruit in her and who later became a model for our times, sowing hope on the 5 continents during her life. Her only desire was to tell everybody that no one is lost for God and that nothing is impossible for Him.
In the evening, after the scenic presentation of the parable of the sower (Mt 13, 3-23), the young people reflected on the three following questions:
- What makes you feel sad in your immediate and wider environment?
- What kind of world do you dream of?
- Which seeds can you sow in order to bring change?
Afterwards, they chose a workshop (poetry, dance or rap), to express under a poetic or choreographic form, the answers to the questions. At the end, their parents and the parishioners present could appreciate the extraordinary creativity of the young people, who offered them a nice performance.
We welcomed 60 young people with about 20 instructors who worked closely with us to plan the evening. The atmosphere was fraternal and full of joy. The parents were happy to discover their children’s talents. It was also the occasion for them to discover the Congregation of Our lady of Charity of the Good Shepherd.
We felt that they had a strong desire to continue collaborating with us, to prepare others events for/and with young people, in order to encourage them to draw on their own resources, so as to become, for the world, sowers of hope.
The feedback is very positive. This great success was possible thanks to the fruitful collaboration of the Sisters of the Congregational Spirituality Centre, and those working with the youth in the Parish St Lazare – St Nicolas and the chaplains who work in colleges and high schools.
