A BRIEF HISTORY At the request of the Bishop Paul Ambrose Bigadet, the Good Shepherd Sisters first set foot on Myanmar in 1866 to take over the education ministry in the campus of St. John the Baptist’s Catholic Church, at Bo Sun Pet Street, Yangon. As the years went by, the Sisters expanded the mission around Yangon responding to the needs of the time. There was a continuous flow of missionaries from the Mother House, France to promote the Good Shepherd Mission in Myanmar. The Province of Philippines – Japan had a glorious celebration of Good Shepherd Sunday this year. Maria de Fátima Coelho Pires Leader of the Southern Europe Region Maria de Fátima Coelho Pires was elected Leader of the Southern Europe Region during the first Chapter of this region, held in Rome from 23 to 28 April 2023. This Region is made up of four countries: Spain, Italy, Malta and Portugal. The Regional office will be located in Rome. Maria de Fátima was born on August 8, 1958, in Portugal. She made her first profession on August 15, 1987, in the Congregation of Our Lady of Charity of the Good Shepherd. Earth Day 2023: Declare Climate Emergency Now! April 22, 2023 Saturday, is Earth Day, an annual event to demonstrate support for environmental protection. Last April 20, 2023, the Religious of the Good Shepherd Philippine-Japan Province participated the event by being one of the signatories of the Statement Declaring Climate Emergency sent to Malacañang and to the Lawmakers in the Congress. Every day, we saw these young boys scavenging food and other metals in the rubbish bin in front of our convent. This scene has challenged us to share our food with them one Christmas – part of the Christmas cake that we baked – and from there we started building a good relationship with them. They started sharing with us their stories and their desire to change their lives. One of them said “Sister, we do not want to be killed as robbers, can you please find us a place where we can do farming?” This plea for help to change their lives impelled me to do something, to look for a plot of land... more

First and Final Professions of Religious Vows (Our Lady of Charity of the Good Shepherd Sisters, Myanmar Sector) Last March 15, 2023 Sr. Mary Catherine Mai Khin Swe Aye (Pyay Diocese), Sr. Mary Emily Pum Man Niang (Kalay Diocese), Sr. Mary Martina Cing Lam Lun (Yangon Diocese), and Sr. Rose Marie Aye Nandar Min (Mawlamyine Diocese) of the Myanmar four sisters of the Myanmar Sector made their final vows.
