21 November 2015 16-days of Action to end Violence against Women and Children
Sr. Sutisa Uthalun and her team (Ms.Supharat Lothisen, Ms.Wimon Srihathat and Ms.Waraporn Khanasa ) from Good Shepherd Children’s Sponsorship Programme organized an event as part of the 16 days of action campaign to end violence against Women and Children.
“To mark 16 Days of Activism to End Violence against Women from 25 November to 10 December we planned an orange event, walking through the city of Nongkhai to raise awareness and to encourage people to say NO to all forms of violence against women and children. We invited all our students from the Sponsorship Programme and their parents. The projected number was around 1,000 participants and we invited the provincial governor of Nongkhai City as guest of honor” said Sr.Sutisa
Through networking with both voluntary and statutory agencies such as the Office of Her Royal Highness Princess Bajra Kitiyabha, the Office of the Attorney General, the police, emergency services, and other local organisations the numbers interested in participating grew. The final number taking part came to almost 6,000!
The participants included: Students from 20 schools, 16 Government units, 8 NGOs and foundations, police, navy, military, security guards, 5 business enterprises and St.Paul de Charte Sisters as well as our own Good Shepherd Sisters and the general public. The rally was led by 4 bands, 2 of whom played traditional Isan music. Following the bands came people with various disabilities, some in wheelchairs, others walking with canes. These were the unofficial “guests of honor”.
Following the rally, 30 guests of honor presented scholarships to 507 students from our Children’s Sponsorship Programme. Prizes were given for best group and best band. It was a great occasion for all who participated.
